WhatsApp QR code
What it is, how it works, and when to use it
A WhatsApp QR Code opens a WhatsApp chat instantly. When someone scans it, their phone launches WhatsApp with your phone number loaded. You can also prefill a message so the user only needs to press Send.
This makes it one of the fastest ways to start a conversation — perfect for sales, support, bookings, inquiries, or lead capture. It works on both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business.
How to create a WhatsApp QR Code
The WhatsApp QR generator on SQR shows two fields:
1. Phone number
This is the number the WhatsApp chat will open.
Always use the full international format so WhatsApp can detect it correctly.
Examples:+1 202 555 0149
+31 6 12345678
+44 7300 900123
Make sure the number is connected to a WhatsApp account (personal or business).
2. Prefilled WhatsApp message
Optional.
This message appears in the chat box automatically when the user opens the link.
Examples:
- “Hi, I’d like to make a reservation.”
- “I’m interested in your product.”
- “Can you send me more information?”
- “My order number is…”
The user can edit the text before sending.
Common uses
WhatsApp QR Codes work extremely well for:
- Sales and lead capture
- Customer support
- Booking or appointment requests
- Order updates or inquiries
- Real estate listings
- Retail stores and offline ads
- Restaurant menus or reservations
- Stickers on packaging or receipts
They remove friction and help businesses start conversations instantly.
Limitations

(Use a dynamic QR if you want flexibility or tracking)
Best practices
- Always use the correct international number format
- Keep prefilled messages short and helpful
- Add a clear label like “Scan to chat with us”
- Test on both Android and iPhone
- Consider a dynamic QR if your number may change later
WhatsApp QR Codes make it incredibly easy for customers to reach you with one scan and one tap.
